Fuel stations across the European Union have experienced a significant surge in diesel prices, reaching a new record level. An analysis conducted by Agence France-Presse, based on national data released by the European Commission today Thursday, revealed that the price
reached 2.23 euros per liter, compared to 2.16 euros the previous week. These figures are issued weekly as part of the European Commission's Oil Bulletin since 2005. They are based on information gathered from national authorities and generally reflect price levels
at fuel stations at the beginning of the week or end of the preceding week. Based on this data, record prices were observed in 19 out of the 27 member states of the European Union, including major countries such as Germany,
France, and Italy. These increases are primarily driven by energy shocks stemming from ongoing geopolitical tensions, including the war in the Middle East and the persistent conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In the context of these new prices, Denmark and Finland
topped the list of countries with the highest costs, where the price of a liter of diesel (also known as gas oil) reached 2.56 euros in each. Germany followed with a price of 2.46 euros, then Belgium and France at
approximately 2.40 euros, and Italy at around 2.30 euros. Despite price increases in other countries like Spain and Sweden, they have not yet reached the peak recorded in 2022, which followed Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
