The Parliamentary Committee for Economy, Industry, and Trade has observed a significant rise in food prices. Jotiyar Al-Sindi, a committee member, informed the official newspaper that the committee notes a considerable price increase recently, especially for foodstuffs. Al-Sindi attributed this to
the impact of waterway closures and difficulties in receiving imported goods. He added that while government entities pursued alternative import routes, higher transport costs were reflected in elevated prices. Furthermore, the government's imposition of customs tariffs late last year worsened
the situation. Al-Sindi suggested solutions to counter these increases, including boosting production in private sector factories to achieve self-sufficiency. He emphasized supporting the domestic economy, aligning with the government program, to reduce import expenses. He affirmed the committee is working to activate
legislation backing the private sector, noting the completion of the first reading and ongoing efforts for the second reading of the draft law to bolster national industry and the local economy. This law aims to enhance factory efficiency and support
initiatives to establish industrial cities to provide essential goods for citizens.
