The seismological observatories affiliated with the General Authority of Meteorology and Seismology announced today, Friday, the registration of a 3.9-magnitude earthquake in Sulaymaniyah province, which was followed by several subsequent tremors. The Authority clarified in a statement that the observatories
recorded, on Friday morning, August 14, 2026, at 1:28:03 AM, an earthquake located approximately 35 kilometers southwest of Sulaymaniyah city center and about 26 kilometers southeast of Chamchamal district. The statement added that residents near the epicenter felt the intensity
of the tremor, confirming the occurrence of multiple aftershocks. The Authority urged citizens to adhere to seismic safety guidelines and avoid rumors, noting that it would issue any further updates should they occur.
