The Swedish government has moved toward reopening its embassy headquarters in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, in a step aimed at strengthening diplomatic and bilateral ties between the two nations. This announcement was made during an official meeting held today, Sunday,
between the National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister, Qassim al-Araji, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Iraq, Jörgen Lindström. The meeting featured a comprehensive review of prospects for joint bilateral relations and ways to elevate them
across various fields, alongside discussions concerning the levels of cooperation between the interior ministries of both countries, as well as coordination within the judicial sphere and specialized entities to support the exchange of expertise and information. During the talks, Al-Araji
affirmed Iraq's steadfast commitment to building balanced and close relations with countries worldwide, including the Kingdom of Sweden, pointing to positive international perceptions regarding the current government and its role in strengthening foreign partnerships. For his part, the Swedish diplomat
extended congratulations on the occasion of Iraq's National Day, reaffirming his country's earnest desire to develop and expand the scope of bilateral relations, while also noting the official government direction in Stockholm toward resuming diplomatic operations and reopening the embassy
in Baghdad soon.
