U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, revealed a plan to accelerate the production of Patriot and THAAD interceptor missiles, in a clear indication of readiness for potential military confrontation with Iran. Secretary Hegseth approved the designation "Arsenal of Freedom" for

this expanded program of interceptor missile production, likely part of preparations for an upcoming confrontation. Secretary Hegseth published a statement from defense industry giant Lockheed Martin on the "X" platform, in which the company affirmed its efforts to meet the increasing

demand for these missiles, collaborating with other companies. The joint statement read: "In conjunction with the Department of Defense and Northrop Grumman, we are accelerating the production of PAC-3 MSE missiles and the THAAD system, to provide critical capability at

the speed and scale required by today's missions. This is the Arsenal of Freedom in action." On the same day, the U.S. Department of Defense announced the signing of agreements with defense industry companies Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin, aiming to

increase the production of missiles designated for the THAAD and Patriot PAC-3 systems. The Department clarified these understandings play a pivotal role in providing long-term demand guarantees for key suppliers, enabling a threefold increase in advanced capability Patriot interceptor missiles

(PAC-3 version) and a fourfold increase in THAAD interceptor missiles. In early August, the U.S. Department of Defense requested from Congress an allocation of $18.2 billion to fund interceptor missiles for the current fiscal year. Relevant reports indicate previous U.S. operations

in the region against Iran have significantly depleted the U.S. arsenal. Washington's accelerated interceptor missile production appears to signal a new round of confrontation with Iran, its timing potentially determined by outcomes of stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington, mediated

by Pakistan and Qatar.
