Leaders of major artificial intelligence companies have warned the UN Security Council about the autonomous evolution of these technologies without human intervention, considering it a serious threat to all humanity. They affirmed that AI systems are advancing at an accelerating
pace, making them difficult to control. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated that AI could develop faster than humanity's ability to react to it. During a UN Security Council session dedicated to the topic, Altman explained that "AI systems are becoming
more powerful and autonomous, and may evolve at a faster pace than our institutions." He warned that "the danger lies in the speed of these changes, making it impossible for people to keep up with what is happening or intervene
to stop it when necessary." Altman added that these risks gain particular importance "as we approach the creation of systems capable of self-improvement and generating future versions," indicating that "the automation of the AI creation process could lead to a sharp
acceleration in its development." These warnings come amid an escalating global debate about the risks associated with unregulated artificial intelligence. In this context, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, previously warned that "advanced artificial intelligence could pose an
existential threat to humanity," calling for the establishment of international "red lines." Furthermore, British-Canadian cognitive psychologist Geoffrey Hinton, one of the prominent pioneers of artificial intelligence and a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2024, cautioned that "losing control
over artificial intelligence, which surpasses us in genius, could have catastrophic consequences, and may even lead to the extinction of humanity." US Senator Bernie Sanders also previously called for "a temporary pause in the development of advanced artificial intelligence and a
ban on super-intelligent AI," stressing: "When you are in a race towards the edge of a cliff, you don't just ease off the gas pedal, you hit the brakes."
