Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, emphasized on Wednesday that the file of restricting arms to the state represents a pure Iraqi decision and a fundamental national goal. In a statement issued by his office, Al-Maliki explained
that enhancing national decision-making independence and complete sovereignty requires completing the process of foreign forces withdrawal, noting that the departure of international coalition forces marks a pivotal milestone, alongside the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Iraqi territory as another step
toward cementing sovereignty. He pointed out that handling the weapons issue necessitates practical and well-studied mechanisms to ensure they remain exclusively in the hands of official state institutions, thereby guaranteeing security, stability, and the rule of law. In another context,
Al-Maliki recalled the profound sacrifices made by security forces, Popular Mobilization forces, and resistance factions in the battles to defeat ISIS and defend the homeland, stressing the need to approach the weapons file with a national responsibility spirit that preserves
state prestige and honors the defenders' sacrifices. Regarding the governmental scene, he called for expediting the completion of the cabinet formation to enable the government to face current challenges, emphasizing the centrality of ongoing dialogue among political forces to achieve
understandings that support political stability and state institutions. He added that the Coordination Framework continues to follow up on various files through specialized committees in coordination with the Prime Minister, stressing the importance of preserving unity and preventing any attempts
to fracture the framework, while supporting government stability to avoid any political vacuum. Al-Maliki concluded by stressing the importance of evaluating the commission's performance and developing the electoral system to ensure the integrity of democratic processes, fair competition, and enhanced
public and political trust in the outcomes.
