A knowledgeable source from the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Region revealed on Sunday, November 1, 2026, that the federal government plans to send 50 million liters of kerosene to the region this month. This amount only covers
the needs of mountainous areas and falls significantly short of the actual demand of the population. The source explained that the regional government had officially requested the federal cabinet to provide 268 million liters of kerosene to ensure a quota
of 200 liters per family. The request is still awaiting final approval to commence shipping. The kerosene is sold to the region at 250 dinars per liter and distributed to citizens at cost plus transportation and logistics fees. The source
also noted that the regional government is currently considering purchasing kerosene from local markets to distribute it at subsidized and reduced prices, aiming to avoid any fuel crisis during the winter and to secure adequate heating for households. Criticism was
directed at the federal government for delaying the scheduling of the allocated quantities to the region, despite kerosene distribution having started last month in Baghdad, Babel, Mosul, and other provinces. The source added that the drop in temperatures in the
mountainous areas has led residents to start using heating devices earlier than usual.
