Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that the defense agreement concluded between his country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan does not target any nation. This agreement, known as the "Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense,"
was signed on August 7th by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a move described as redrawing regional security contours. At its core, the agreement stipulates that any attack
or aggression against one of the signatory states is considered an assault on all parties, clearly embodying a shared strategic will. In exclusive statements to "Asharq Al-Awsat" newspaper, President Erdogan clarified that this tripartite alliance is not directed against any specific
party, but rather an effective tool to enhance regional security and stability. He stated that the agreement embodies a strategic will founded on principles of peace, stability, solidarity, and collective deterrence, emphasizing the fundamental principle uniting the three nations: "The
security of one of us is the security of us all." Operationally, the agreement includes enhanced cooperation in intelligence sharing and regional security coordination. Erdogan also noted that this alliance remains open to "all sisterly nations" that share the same vision,
calling for diplomacy and dialogue to prevail over escalation and conflict. Regarding the geopolitical vision, the Turkish President stressed the necessity for the region's countries to assume responsibility for their destiny, rejecting any "prescriptions or solutions imposed from outside." He affirmed
that "the region's problems must be resolved by its people and regional players themselves," indicating that the future of the Middle East cannot be determined without the will of its states. Erdogan concluded by asserting that Turkey and its allies
seek to build "a regional system based on respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, where security, development, and prosperity are jointly enhanced," a message reflecting commitment to achieving comprehensive and sustainable stability and building an independent and effective regional security
framework.
