The Federal Integrity Commission in the Republic of Iraq and the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution of the Sultanate of Oman signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of anti-corruption.
The signing ceremony took place in the Qatari capital, Doha, on the sidelines of the Sixth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention. Representing the Iraqi side in the signing was Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, Head
of the Federal Integrity Commission, while Sheikh Ghosn bin Hilal Al-Alawi, Head of the Sultanate's State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution, represented the Omani side. This important step comes within the framework of strengthening Arab and regional cooperation in combating
the scourge of corruption. The signing of the MoU stems from both parties' recognition of the serious problems and threats that corruption poses to the security and stability of societies, as well as its undermining of institutions, democratic systems, and values
of justice. This initiative reflects the desire of both sides to develop and coordinate efforts to prevent corruption and mitigate its effects, affirming the importance of fostering bilateral cooperation relations and establishing Arab cooperation efforts in accordance with the national
legislations in force in both countries. The MoU seeks to activate cooperation between the two parties across several areas, including the exchange of expertise and information regarding anti-corruption strategies and policies, and the sharing of insights and studies related to comprehensive
measures taken to prevent corruption. Furthermore, it involves the exchange of expertise in mechanisms for handling complaints and grievances, and identifying the necessary means for these processes. The MoU also stipulated the follow-up on requests for legal assistance and international recovery
files with the relevant national authorities in both countries until a decision is reached. Additionally, it includes the exchange of expertise in the field of corruption prevention, particularly concerning financial disclosure systems, avoiding conflicts of interest, and consolidating the principles
of integrity and transparency. Both sides emphasized the importance of facilitating the exchange of visits, training courses, and workshops, as well as the exchange of research and scientific studies and facilitating their publication in academic periodicals and journals, thereby enhancing the
common goals between the two countries.
