The Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc warned today, Saturday, of the repercussions of US restrictions on Iranian aviation on Iraq's economic interests. In a statement issued by the bloc, it expressed its concern over the implications of the American sanctions imposed
on Iranian airlines and the restrictions they impose on services provided to them. It indicated that these measures could further complicate the regional scene, at a time when there is an urgent need for de-escalation and dialogue. The bloc also warned
of the potential negative impacts of these restrictions on Iraqi economic interests, particularly sectors related to travel and religious visits. These measures could obstruct the movement of visitors between Iraq and Iran and increase burdens on travelers. The bloc stressed the
necessity of addressing US-Iranian differences through diplomatic means, sparing civilians their repercussions, and avoiding exacerbating the burdens on the Iranian people, who have been facing the effects of economic sanctions for years. The bloc called on the Iraqi government to engage
in a clear and direct dialogue with the American side, through specialized diplomatic and technical channels. This dialogue aims to discuss the possibility of obtaining specific exemptions or licenses that protect Iraq's interests and alleviate the impact of these measures
on travel and religious visits, while safeguarding Iraqi institutions from the risk of exposure to sanctions.
