The Federal Integrity Commission announced the issuance of a court ruling sentencing MP Ashwaq Salem Hassan to seven years in prison for illicit gain. The court ordered the convict to repay the value of unlawfully obtained funds and imposed a
fine equivalent to that value, bringing the total amount required to approximately 11,949,264,000 Iraqi dinars. The Commission clarified that the Central Criminal Court for Anti-Corruption issued this judgment against the Member of Parliament in accordance with Article (19/second) of Law No.
(30 of 2011) on the Integrity Commission and Illicit Gain, as amended. The decision included obliging her to repay the value of the illicit gain, estimated at 2,114,820,000 Iraqi dinars and 2,924,100 US dollars, in addition to a fine equivalent
to its value, in accordance with Article (19/fourth) of the same law. Furthermore, the court issued another severe imprisonment sentence of three years against the convicted person for concealing information in her financial disclosure form, based on Article (19/fifth) of the
Commission's law. The stricter of the two penalties, the seven-year prison sentence, was applied. The rulings also included confirming the seizure of her movable and immovable assets. This judgment, once it acquires final legal force, authorizes the Federal Integrity Commission to
claim compensation for damages incurred.
