The Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court has issued a definitive verdict of severe imprisonment for four years against a Director-General in the Ministry of Education, in addition to imposing a financial fine of ten million Iraqi Dinars. This ruling follows the
conviction of the Director-General of Karkh First Education for the crime of bribery. The verdict clarified that the conviction came after proving the defendant requested a sum of (50) thousand US dollars from a complainant, in exchange for intervening in the
performance of his official duties. This intervention involved closing investigative committees formed against the complainant within Karkh First Education, and ensuring his retention in his position as director of a school. The Federal Integrity Commission had investigated this case and referred
it to the judiciary. After reviewing all submitted evidence and proofs, the court established the defendant's culpability and issued its decision to convict and sentence him in person, in accordance with the provisions of Amended Resolution (160 of 1983). It is
noteworthy that authorities had announced late last March the execution of an arrest warrant issued against the Director-General of Karkh First Education, after its investigative team succeeded in apprehending an intermediary red-handed while requesting the aforementioned bribe amount, fifty thousand
dollars, in exchange for canceling an investigative committee against the director of one of Karkh First Education's schools.
