The Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, called on Sunday for avoiding the use of exchange rate measures as an excuse to generate anxiety and disrupt the general atmosphere. Al-Maliki noted in a post via the X
platform that specialists in Iraqi economic affairs are divided between supporters and opponents of the step to adjust the US dollar exchange rate, driven by concerns over protecting citizens' purchasing power and living standards. He explained that altering the national
currency's value is a tool utilized by various nations facing financial challenges, provided the government has the capacity to address negative repercussions, safeguard individual incomes, and regulate market movements. He added that the relevant authorities are working on formulating clear
mechanisms to guarantee market stability and economic activity without burdening citizens with these remedies. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of expediting the announcement of solutions capable of protecting individual living standards to ensure economic stability.
