The Ministry of Construction and Housing announced on Monday that 86% of Iraq's population currently has access to drinking water, with an ambitious plan in place to extend coverage to all areas. Hussein Jassim Al-Mousawi, Director General of the Water
Directorate, stated that the ministry has significantly reduced the service gap and is implementing several projects aimed at increasing coverage to 100%. He highlighted strategic projects underway in various provinces, including the South Karbala water project with a capacity of
16,000 cubic meters per hour, the Ramadi water project with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per hour, along with five projects in Diyala. Al-Mousawi emphasized that the ministry is also focusing on improving the quality of produced water, especially
given the decline in river water quality, and is cooperating with relevant authorities to reduce pollution.
