The Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, emphasized today, Friday, the necessity of ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to navigation.
Rutte told reporters: "We are making progress in increasing public spending on the alliance's armed forces and raising the level of our defense industries," pointing out that "the alliance will remain united in facing enemies, and our response to any attempt to target us will be devastating."
He added, "We face real threats, and we reaffirm our continuous support for Ukraine," noting that "the alliance's foreign ministers agreed on the need to allow freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and we will provide support."
Rutte explained, "We intend to provide support to the countries of the region to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and it is important that countries' efforts combine regarding plans to ensure the strait remains open for
the passage of ships," indicating that "the direct Iranian attack on freedom of navigation affects us all."
