On Thursday, Bafel Talabani, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, announced his decision to withdraw from the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq. Talabani stated that his party aimed to form a government distinct from previous ones and to
improve relations with Baghdad, noting that the Kurdistan Democratic Party does not respect democracy or the will of the people. He emphasized that the Patriotic Union does not recognize the Kurdistan Regional Parliament nor the parliamentary session held, confirming the
party's decision to withdraw from the regional government. He added that the Patriotic Union will continue to elect the region's president and prime minister from Sulaymaniyah province. Earlier on Thursday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan announced plans to hold an
emergency meeting chaired by its leader to discuss political developments in the region, particularly the first session of the regional parliament and its implications. It is noted that the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elected Fala Farid Ibrahim as its president, Rami
Nuri Audish as vice president, and Mona Nabi Nader as secretary of the presidium, with a majority of 52 votes on Wednesday.
