Satellite images and video footage verified by Reuters have revealed two oil spills in Iranian waters, near two Gulf islands. This raises concerns about escalating environmental damage amidst ongoing exchanges of attacks between Iran and the United States on tankers
and vessels. This unfolds as the oil spill crisis continues from the tanker "Caroline Bisinji," which ran aground off Oman, outside the Strait of Hormuz. Russian crude oil is leaking from the tanker into a protected marine area, forming a
slick estimated by some assessments to cover approximately 2000 square kilometers. Reports indicated that the "Caroline Bisinji" incident is not linked to the Iran-US conflict, but the two new spills are located within Gulf waters, complicating efforts to access and
contain the pollution due to the prevailing dispute.
