Apple has officially introduced the new MacBook Pro equipped with a touchscreen, marking a significant shift in the design of its portable computers. These devices come with notably high prices compared to previous models, which may impact consumer purchasing decisions.
The starting price for the new MacBook Pro is $2,899, reaching up to $14,549 for the highest available specifications. The device features the advanced M5 Max processor, which includes an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. Upgrade options include SSD
storage capacities up to 16 terabytes, with a price increase of up to $7,000, as well as RAM up to 128 gigabytes for an additional $2,000. There is also a nano-texture glass option designed to reduce glare, priced at $150.
These prices come amid market challenges such as component shortages and increased demand for AI-related hardware, driving up manufacturing costs. This new release shows a substantial price increase compared to the previous model, which had a top price of $10,149.
This launch marks Apple's return to touchscreen technology in its laptops after an earlier experience with the Touch Bar, indicating a strategic shift in how it approaches user interfaces for the MacBook Pro line.
