Reports have been circulating across social media platforms and among users of the foldable iPhone Duo about the device experiencing rapid and noticeable malfunctions. Several users reported that after only a few hours of use, the hinge appeared to get
stuck, followed by a distinct cracking sound and screen fractures occurring in nearly the same spot. A YouTuber named "CuriousHagi" successfully replicated the screen cracking issue during durability tests conducted on the phone. Subsequently, the YouTuber disassembled the device to
investigate the cause and found that the complex hinge consists of a central gear-like hinge and two different types of connecting hinges. The teardown revealed that the damaged part was one of the links in the middle of the phone,
which was thinner than the links above and below it, causing it to break at a small weak point. Additionally, marks were found where the hinge meets the support plate, suggesting the hinge may have caught there, leading to the
malfunction.
