Home Global Europe Sees Stability in Refugee Numbers for 2025

Recent reports indicate that the number of refugees and asylum seekers in European countries did not significantly change in 2025 compared to the previous year. This suggests an effective halt in the increasing wave of refugee inflows, which had continued

for over a decade. According to a report from the Migration Research and Analysis Center at the Rockwell Foundation in Berlin, the period of rapid growth in refugee numbers in Europe appears to have reached its end, as stated by

the center's Deputy Director, Tommaso Frattini. Based on available data, the total number of refugees and asylum seekers in the European Union and the United Kingdom reached 9.59 million people in 2025, compared to 9.58 million in the previous year. Germany,

which hosts the largest number of refugees, also witnessed a nearly 5% decrease in this indicator. In a related context, researchers noted a more than 70% decline in asylum applications submitted by Syrian citizens, following political changes witnessed in Damascus

in 2024. This report comes at a time when the European Parliament recently voted on a law allowing the establishment of centers for deporting migrants to third countries.
