Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, during his meeting with US Senator Elissa Slotkin at the US Senate building in Washington, the file of ISIS terrorist organization prisoners who were previously transferred from Syrian territories to Iraq, alongside reviewing bilateral
relations and ways to develop joint cooperation between both sides in security and economic fields. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in an official statement that the meeting deeply touched upon prospects for enhancing security cooperation, moving towards preventive working
mechanisms, and providing necessary support for training programs of the Iraqi armed forces and raising the efficiency of security institutions. Both sides also addressed the importance of supporting governmental efforts aimed at consolidating the rule of law and restricting arms
solely to the state to ensure enhanced security and stability in the country, while emphasizing the necessity of doubling international cooperation to deal with the detainees file and facilitate the repatriation of nationals to their home countries, in addition to
continuing communication and joint coordination between the government and Congress regarding support programs and institutional capacities. On the economic front, the meeting touched upon expanding investment opportunities and building sustainable long term economic partnerships, and effectively utilizing the expertise of
talents and competencies within the Iraqi diaspora in the United States, particularly those residing in Michigan, to support the path of comprehensive economic development.
