The Ministry of Oil clarified in an official statement on Friday that the expected timeline for completely eliminating gas flaring across all national fields is set for the end of 2029, rather than 2027. Ministry spokesman Salim al-Rikabi stated that
this clarification addresses reports circulated by several news outlets and television channels regarding an earlier target date of 2027. Al-Rikabi pointed out that the information previously shared on the ministry’s official social media platforms, citing the deputy minister for gas
affairs, specifically concerned capturing all flared gas within the North Oil Company, not all operational entities under the ministry. He added that achieving zero gas flaring across all Iraqi fields remains projected for late 2029, driven by several major infrastructure
projects currently being executed nationwide.
