The Parliamentary Legal Committee emphasized that effectively combating corruption requires moving beyond merely pursuing implicated individuals, focusing instead on reaching the integrated systems supporting them from behind the scenes. Committee member Mohammed Al-Khafaji stated in press remarks that current revelations
are merely fronts for a widespread corruption network. He stressed that the traditional approach of prosecuting corrupt individuals alone is no longer sufficient to eradicate this serious phenomenon, indicating today's situation demands a different approach. Al-Khafaji clarified that the current
significant efforts by the government, the Integrity Commission, and the judiciary are crucial for exposing and bringing down those involved. However, he noted that corruption's complete elimination isn't achieved by merely holding accountable individuals at the forefront; it necessitates uncovering
the system behind them, which provides protection or facilitates its interests through them. He affirmed that ongoing investigations by the Integrity Commission and the Supreme Judicial Council are revealing numerous individuals involved in corruption cases, confirming the existence of an
integrated corruption system. He stressed the need to build a strong counter-system capable of confronting and prosecuting all corrupt figures, regardless of their positions.
