President Nizar Aamedi affirmed on Wednesday that the Holy City of Karbala represents a towering beacon of resistance against injustice and for the defense of freedom and human dignity. This came during his meeting with the Governor of Holy Karbala, Nassif
Jassim Al-Khattabi, the Chairman of the Provincial Council, Mr. Qasim Al-Yassari, council members, and heads of administrative units as part of his visit to the governorate. The meeting comprehensively discussed the reality of Karbala, its service and development needs, and
ways to enhance development plans and infrastructure modernization to keep pace with the growing religious and tourist movement. President Aamedi clarified that Karbala, throughout its history, was not merely a center for religious and spiritual enlightenment, but also a beacon of
resistance against oppression and tyranny, defending the values of freedom and dignity. He highlighted its renowned national stances, particularly the uprisings of 1977 and 1991, which reflected the rejection of its people of authoritarianism and injustice. He added that Karbala
was the starting point for the Fatwa of Kifai Jihad, which played a pivotal role in mobilizing the Iraqi people to confront Daesh terrorist gangs and defeat their schemes, thereby reaffirming its national role in defending Iraq's unity and sovereignty. The
President emphasized the necessity of giving Holy Karbala the attention commensurate with its great religious and historical status, and the deep symbolism it holds in the conscience of all Iraqis and Muslims, as it embraces the shrines of Imam Hussein
bin Ali and his brother Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them), as well as other sacred shrines and holy sites that attract millions of visitors. Aamedi noted that Karbala receives special attention, stressing the importance of improving its service and
urban realities in a manner befitting its status, its people, and its visitors, and enhancing its capacity to welcome millions of visitors and provide them with the best services. He clarified that the Presidency fully supports the efforts of the
local government in implementing plans aimed at the governorate's development and prosperity. He further explained that serving citizens, meeting their needs, and improving the level of services represent a fundamental priority, stressing the importance of listening to the demands of
the residents and working to address them within legal frameworks and available capabilities. For their part, the Governor of Karbala, the Chairman and members of the Provincial Council, and the heads of administrative units appreciated the President's visit. They reviewed the
main needs and challenges and presented proposed projects for developing the governorate's service and developmental reality.
