Home policy Prime Minister reveals former financial options including delaying salary distribution

Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi held a meeting in the House of Representatives, during which he revealed the nature of the financial challenges facing the government, explaining that the executive administration studied three options to deal with the crisis. The first

involved implementing forced savings and leaving employees hostage to promises, while the second option stipulated distributing salaries every forty-five days, and the third option included resorting to borrowing and multiplying the burdens of debts that already weigh heavily on the

country. He clarified that he assumed his duties at a time when the national economy was facing an undeclared siege as a result of the cessation of oil exports and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the

volume of public debt reached more than two hundred and eight trillion dinars, amidst a government commitment to provide ten trillion dinars monthly for salaries, yet the government successfully secured them despite the harsh conditions resulting from the war. In

a related context, Al-Zaidi pointed out that the coming month will witness a doubling of the disbursement of dues to farmers and contractors, criticizing the attempts of some parties to create a gap between the government and various segments of

society, while emphasizing at the same time the continuation of the project to distribute one million residential land plots and establish new cities, with the announcement of laying the foundation stone for housing projects in the governorates of Karbala, Najaf,

and Nineveh. The Prime Minister indicated that the difference in the US dollar exchange rate was previously monopolized by speculators, announcing the establishment of the Generations Fund to finance developmental projects in various sectors, and confirming the imminent pumping of

good quantities of foreign currency into circulation, at a time when the parliament presidency and bloc leaders had held a meeting with the head of government to discuss overall political and parliamentary files and the repercussions of the change in

the dollar exchange rate.
