Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met on Thursday in the Italian capital Rome with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani at the Italian Foreign Ministry headquarters to discuss bilateral relations, enhance joint
cooperation, and review regional and international developments. Hussein expressed Iraq appreciation for Italy steadfast support, government and people, in the war against terrorism and the defeat of ISIS, praising ongoing efforts to train federal police and Peshmerga forces. Both sides
discussed prospects for developing security and military cooperation in the next phase, particularly regarding the post-international coalition era, in addition to addressing pending financial and military files with the Italian government and companies dating back to the previous regime. The
talks also covered the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war on European security, as well as regional conflicts and their impact on Iraq and the Gulf states. Hussein emphasized the necessity for the European Union and European nations, including Italy, to
play an active role in supporting peaceful initiatives and bridging views between conflicting parties. Furthermore, he noted that the ongoing US-Iranian conflict has left heavy economic consequences, revealing that Iraq suffered losses estimated at around sixty billion dollars during the
recent conflict between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, while warning that the continuation of the conflict has exacerbated the global energy crisis and inflation concerns affecting global economies.
