France has prepared a draft resolution in the UN Security Council providing for the formation of an international mission aimed at reopening navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating tensions related to the security of maritime corridors in the region.

According to data, Paris intends to present the project "at the appropriate time" after conducting consultations with both the United States and Iran, in an attempt to bridge viewpoints and avoid further escalation.

On the other hand, a joint US-Bahraini draft resolution, calling on Iran to stop attacks and mine-laying operations, faces the risk of being vetoed by Russia and China, which consider the text biased. Moscow and Beijing had thwarted a similar project during last April.

For its part, Washington seeks to overcome the division within the Security Council, after succeeding in rallying the support of about 140 countries for its proposal, within the framework of increasing diplomatic pressure regarding the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
