Futures for crude oil experienced a slight decline, driven by escalating hopes for a potential agreement between the United States and Iran to extend a ceasefire. This came as statements from U.S. Senator J.D. Vance, indicating that a final deal

has not yet been reached but both parties are drawing closer, provided some support to prices. By 01:05 GMT, Brent crude futures for July delivery, which expire today, Friday, fell by 35 cents, or 0.37 percent, settling at $93.36 per barrel.

U.S. crude futures also dropped by 63 cents, or 0.71 percent, to stand at $88.27 per barrel. The more actively traded August Brent futures decreased by 46 cents, or 0.50 percent, reaching $92.24. Over the week, prices declined by more than

eight percent, with Brent crude hitting a low of $87.11 compared to its high of $109.47 last week. Prices have shown significant volatility in recent sessions due to conflicting signals regarding the potential end of the three-month-old conflict and the

reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies typically pass. The volume of traffic through the strait remains a fraction of its pre-conflict levels. In this

context, reports indicated that Washington and Tehran had preliminarily reached an agreement to extend the ceasefire and lift restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. However, it had not yet received final approval from the senior U.S. administration. Meanwhile,

official Iranian state media reported that the final touches had not yet been applied. Speaking to reporters, Senator Vance clarified that Washington has "not yet" reached an agreement with Iran but is close, affirming that the United States is in a

position to significantly obstruct Tehran's nuclear program. Vance pointed to a few sticking points in the talks with Tehran, particularly concerning its enriched uranium stockpile and the issue of enrichment. He concluded by saying, "I cannot guarantee a deal, but

I feel very optimistic about it right now."
