Gasoline and diesel prices in the United States reached unprecedented levels on Tuesday, coinciding with Election Day, despite a decline in prices over recent weeks. Fuel costs continue to strain American household budgets amid the ongoing conflict with Iran. An
analysis of data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) showed that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline nationwide reached $4.15, marking the highest price recorded on an election day since data collection began in 2000. This price
surpassed the previous record of $3.80 per gallon set during the 2022 midterm elections, a period that saw inflation reach its highest levels in four decades during the tenure of former President Joe Biden. Meanwhile, the average price for a
gallon of diesel fuel reached $6.29, exceeding the previous election day record of $5.35 set in 2022. Diesel is a critical fuel for the transportation, logistics, and industrial sectors. The analysis indicated that diesel prices hit a record high even
after adjusting for inflation.
