US Secretary of State Marco Rubio estimated that an announcement would be issued today, Sunday, regarding a settlement agreement with Iran.
Rubio said, today, Sunday, during his meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on an official visit to India, that "notable progress, though not final, has been made" in negotiations regarding Iran... I think more news will be issued later today on this topic." According to the Associated Press.
Rubio added that the United States and its allies in the Gulf have made progress toward reaching an agreement that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address concerns regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Rubio continued: "We have made some progress over the past 48 hours working with our partners in the Gulf region on a plan that could lead, if successful, not only to opening the strait completely - and I mean opening
it without transit fees - but also to addressing some of the key issues that form the basis of Iran's nuclear ambitions in the past."
Rubio also warned against allowing Iran to disrupt navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said: "This is an international waterway, and they have no right to it. What they are doing now is essentially a threat to destroy commercial vessels using this international waterway."
He added that the agreement could mark the beginning of a process that will ultimately bring us to what the President wants, which is a world that no longer fears or worries about an Iranian nuclear weapon.
