The Ministry of Oil announced Tuesday strategic plans to boost production from the Yamama reservoir in West Qurna field to 400,000 barrels per day. The Ministry confirmed adopting advanced water injection technologies in the reservoir to ensure sustained pressure and

enhance long-term extraction efficiency. Arab Abdel Khaleq, Director of the Reservoirs Department at West Qurna/1 Operations Authority, detailed the plans. He stated his department manages all oil reservoirs in the field, noting the "Mushrif" reservoir is currently the primary producer, contributing

about 95 percent of the field's total daily output. Abdel Khaleq added, the "Yamama" development plan targets around 400,000 barrels per day during 2028-2029. Production starts with an initial 20,000 barrels daily, expanding gradually based on reservoir pressure readings and monitoring. West

Qurna field includes "Mushrif" and "Zubair" reservoirs, plus other discovered but undeveloped ones like "Saadi" and "Mudood." For "Yamama," Abdel Khaleq confirmed ongoing efforts to finalize its development for effective integration into the production system. Technically, specialized reservoir studies for "Yamama"

are complete, with 6-7 wells drilled. Extracted oil samples underwent precise analyses, including hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas levels, crucial for determining necessary facility technical specifications. Abdel Khaleq indicated "Yamama"'s hydrogen sulfide gas percentage is high, about 4000 per approved measurements. This

necessitates designing special facilities, suitable and resistant to corrosion caused by the gas. He emphasized maintaining reservoir pressure. Should "Yamama" pressure drop, a production well could convert to water injection. Injection could be 10,000 barrels of water daily, against 10,000 barrels

of oil. These measures preserve pressure, ensure sustainability, and gradually increase utilization.
