Home policy Parliamentary Legal Committee Affirms Immunity Lifting During Recess Without Vote

The parliamentary legal committee affirmed on Tuesday that the law grants the Speaker of Parliament the authority to lift immunity from members during the legislative recess without the need for a vote by the council. In this context, committee member Thair

Al-Kaabi stated that "the Council of Representatives fully supports the Prime Minister's anti-corruption campaign and endorses all steps aimed at preserving public funds and holding those involved in corruption cases accountable." Al-Kaabi emphasized that "the success of this campaign depends

on strict adherence to legal procedures during its implementation." Al-Kaabi clarified that "the legal committee's stance stems from the paramount importance of applying the law to all individuals and institutions." He added that "executive measures must be fully consistent with the

provisions of the Constitution and existing laws, which enhances citizens' confidence in government actions and ensures the achievement of the campaign's goals in eradicating corruption." The MP also pointed out that "the mechanism for lifting immunity previously adopted was carried out

in accordance with the constitutional and legal frameworks in force in the country." Al-Kaabi stressed that "the current phase necessitates continued close cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities to support anti-corruption efforts, with an emphasis on full adherence to

the law in all procedures, to consolidate the principle of the rule of law and enhance citizens' trust in state institutions."
