The Vatican stated on Friday that the Pope is showing steady improvement in a Rome hospital following a surgical procedure on Tuesday to remove a lung cancer tumor. The Vatican added that the Pope has become capable of carrying out
his normal daily activities completely independently. It was also noted that the Pope will make a public appearance on Sunday for the first time since entering the hospital to recite the traditional Angelus prayer, while preparations continue for his scheduled
trip in November to South America. This news follows the state of anxiety that prevailed in the Vatican on Tuesday evening after the medical report announced the removal part of the right lung to eliminate a cancerous adenoma, following a
surgery that lasted about 90 minutes. Further tests will determine whether the cancer has spread beyond the surgically treated area. According to the medical team, these examinations will define the exact stage of the disease and potential treatments to follow,
such as radiation therapy, although expectations remain positive given the radical excision performed and the Pope's general good health, known for his physical fitness and passion for tennis and swimming.
