Hajj pilgrimage trips to Saudi Arabia have witnessed an unprecedented surge in costs this year, driven by the repercussions of regional conflicts that have disrupted air traffic and sent jet fuel prices to record highs. This increase directly impacts millions

of Muslims wishing to perform the fifth pillar of Islam. In Egypt, which represents the largest Muslim population bloc in the Middle East, the average price of Hajj flight tickets has soared to 50,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately $956 USD) this year,

compared to 30,000 pounds previously. Comprehensive Hajj packages, often preferred by travelers, have also seen a 30% increase, with some reaching 90,000 pounds from an earlier 70,000 pounds, according to data from the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers. These increases come

amidst significant disruptions to air traffic across the Gulf region since February, leading to a marked rise in jet fuel costs. Jazeera Airways, which transports over 30,000 pilgrims from Russia and Central Asian countries to Mecca, confirmed that its prices

have risen by 40% this season, attributing this to its lack of hedging against fuel price volatility. Travel company data indicates that air ticket prices to Saudi Arabia from key Muslim markets, including Egypt, Pakistan, and India, have risen by 20%

to 40% compared to the same period last year, with some journeys seeing an approximate 50% increase in total cost. Although Saudi Arabia has not been directly affected by the instability caused by the conflicts, the rising prices reflect on the

Kingdom and the more than 1.5 million foreign pilgrims who travel annually to perform the Hajj. The Hajj has long been one of the most prominent and stable forms of tourism and a significant source of income for the Kingdom,

which is increasingly focused on developing religious tourism and diversifying its revenues. Market experts estimate that the value of the Hajj economy could triple, reaching approximately $350 billion by 2034.
