The Kurdistan Regional Government has raised official demands to adopt a specific percentage for its financial share in the federal budget law for the year two thousand and twenty-seven, amidst serious calls to keep the livelihood file away from political
conflicts. This came during the regular meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Cabinet, which reviewed the results of the discussions held by the negotiating delegation with official authorities in Baghdad, where a comprehensive presentation was made regarding the ongoing understandings with
the federal Ministry of Finance, and the meeting included registering a number of reservations and proposals regarding the clauses contained in the draft law. The Council explained that the statistical data based on the recent population census for the year
two thousand and twenty-four confirms the region's entitlement to obtain the proposed percentage as an objective and accurate criterion for distributing allocations in the general budget. The attendees also stressed the necessity of respecting constitutional and financial rights, securing the
salaries of government sector workers, Peshmerga forces, retirees, families of martyrs, political prisoners, and beneficiaries of the social protection network, in addition to providing job titles according to the standards adopted in the rest of the provinces. The Council concluded
by emphasizing the importance of neutralizing financial dues from any political disputes or conditions that hinder the disbursement process, based on constitutional texts and binding judicial decisions, while renewing full support for the negotiating team to reach a fair and
equitable settlement that ensures financial stability and meets the needs of the region's citizens.
