The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Wednesday the continued enforcement of its decision to ban the import of sheep fat, urging relevant authorities to intensify measures to combat its smuggling into the country. In a statement, the Ministry affirmed that
the decision remains in effect under the directive of Minister of Agriculture Abdul Rahim Jasim Al-Shammari. It emphasized the need for the National Security Agency and specialized oversight bodies to tighten controls to prevent the illegal entry of this commodity,
thereby safeguarding food security and public health, and based on a previous decision by the Ministerial Economic Council. The Ministry clarified that these steps are taken based on available information confirming attempts to illegally introduce sheep fat and animal fats of
Iranian origin through border crossings, particularly in the Kurdistan Region. These attempts aim to transport and circulate these products in local markets, which constitutes a clear violation of existing regulations and instructions. The Ministry called for enhanced surveillance and coordination among
security, regulatory, and customs authorities to prevent the entry of these materials. It stressed the importance of taking stringent legal actions against those involved in smuggling and illicit trade operations to ensure consumer protection and the safety of food products
in circulation. The Ministry reiterated its appeal to all concerned parties to strengthen inspection and control measures at border crossings and local markets, and to cooperate in curbing smuggling activities that threaten public health.
