Areas across the Syrian governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Hasakah are witnessing widespread popular movements, including protests and road closures, in rejection of the recent surge in fuel prices. These demonstrations have been accompanied by calls to reduce prices
and implement measures to ease the living burdens on citizens. Reports from the region indicate that several roads have been blocked, and the passage of oil tankers prevented in parts of the Syrian Jazeera area, while other locations saw protest
gatherings where participants voiced their outright rejection of the new increases in fuel costs. In the Raqqa countryside, the Deir ez-Zor-Aleppo international road near Huweija Shannan was closed using burning tires in protest against the rising fuel prices. The Al-Karama
area also experienced road closures and prevented the passage of oil tankers. Similar protest movements were recorded in various areas of Deir ez-Zor, involving the blocking of main roads, with demonstrators raising demands for fuel prices to be lowered to
match the challenging economic and living conditions they face.
