The Iranian Students News Agency "ISNA" quoted Iranian officials on Friday as saying that the arrival of Pakistani Army Chief Marshal Asim Munir does not mean reaching a final agreement on the initial framework for negotiations with Washington.

The Pakistani army announced earlier today the arrival of its Chief of Staff Asim Munir in Tehran, within the framework of ongoing mediation efforts to reach an agreement between Washington and Tehran.

A Pakistani security source had confirmed that Munir would head to Tehran in an attempt to reach an agreement to end the war between the United States and Iran, and to start negotiations for a broader agreement. This came after

the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said it "neither denies nor confirms" what the Iranian news agency "IRNA" previously reported that Munir would head to Tehran.

According to the "Axios" website, Munir has been the main mediator between the United States and Iran since the beginning of the war, and his travel to Tehran after several days of talks at a lower level may indicate a final attempt by Pakistan to reach an agreement.

On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: "There has been some slight progress. I don't want to overstate it, but there has been some movement, and that's good."

He added that "the primary requirement is that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon. It simply cannot."

Rubio pointed out that "the agreement must address Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium and future enrichment policy."

He stressed that Iran should not be allowed to impose a "transit toll" in the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran repeated its intention to establish such a system on Thursday.
