Russian President Vladimir Putin, participating in the BRICS summit, called for a fundamental restructuring of global governance institutions. He underscored the necessity of expanding the United Nations Security Council to include nations from the "Global South" and reforming the International
Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization. Putin emphasized the importance of ending what he termed "Western dictatorship." President Putin articulated that the era in which a "unipolar system in international relations served a limited category of states
has passed," noting that power dynamics are currently undergoing a redistribution in favor of new growth centers emerging in the Global South and the East. He affirmed that within the context of this nascent multipolar world order, working collectively to
foster genuine multilateralism has become more crucial than ever. This entails involving more countries in global governance mechanisms and the activities of key international political and economic structures, thereby contributing to finding solutions for acute challenges and threats and ensuring
international peace and stability for the achievement of global prosperity and well-being. In a related vein, the Russian President highlighted that those accustomed to classifying the world according to essentially colonial perceptions, dividing it into a "flourishing garden" and a "wild
jungle"—namely, those who live at the expense of others—are impeding the formation of a multipolar world. He added that these parties, unwilling to accept changing realities, are striving by all available means to contain their growing rivals, employing various tactics
including tariff wars, illegitimate sanctions, attempts at economic dictatorship, blackmail, interference in internal affairs, and brute force. President Putin also underscored the pivotal role of the BRICS group, describing it as the largest association globally. He highlighted the significant economic contribution
of member states, with the group producing 40 percent of the world's GDP, encompassing nearly half of the global population, and occupying one-third of the planet's landmass. These nations continue to deepen their cooperation across all major domains, including politics
and security, economy and finance, in addition to culture and humanitarian affairs. The Russian President stressed that the BRICS partnership is firmly rooted in the principles of equality, good neighborliness, and mutual consideration of interests. He asserted that BRICS has deservedly
solidified its position as one of the primary centers of global governance, indicating that the future trajectory of international politics, security, economics, and humanitarian cooperation largely depends on the collective decisions and actions of this group. In this regard, an
increasing number of nations are unequivocally declaring their readiness to defend their national interests and actively participate in addressing global issues. Concluding his address, Putin reiterated the imperative to expand the United Nations Security Council to ensure greater representation for countries
of the Global South. He further stated that the world is currently undergoing radical geopolitical, geo-economic, technological, and social transformations, affecting multiple aspects such as people's lifestyles, healthcare standards, environmental quality, societal structures, and the world's demographic map. In this
context, he expressed his belief in the necessity of continuing collaboration with like-minded BRICS partners to enhance the quality of UN activities, emphasizing that the expansion of the Security Council with representation from Asian, African, and Latin American countries would
strengthen these efforts.
