Home Global Oil Tanker Explosion Reported in Strait of Hormuz with No Injuries

The British Maritime Trade Operations announced on Friday that it received a delayed report about an explosion on an oil tanker while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, with no injuries among the crew. The authority stated in its release

that the incident occurred 16 nautical miles off the coast of Oman, where the tanker’s captain—whose identity was not disclosed—reported an explosion on the left side of the vessel without specifying the cause. The statement confirmed that the crew is

safe and the tanker continues to operate and proceed with its journey normally, advising other ships to navigate the strait cautiously and report any suspicious activity. No party has claimed responsibility for the incident as of 12:00 GMT, and the

reasons behind the explosion remain unknown. This event follows an attack on another tanker the previous day, which was targeted by unidentified projectiles in Gulf waters 50 nautical miles north of the city of Al Shamal in Qatar. The region

is witnessing escalating security risks threatening navigation in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and surrounding waterways, due to a series of attacks on commercial vessels in recent months. These developments coincide with ongoing tensions between Iran and the United

States regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic routes for global energy and trade transport, and a key issue in negotiations to end the conflict between the two countries. In February, the United States and

Israel launched attacks on Iran before a ceasefire was reached in April; however, confrontations resumed in July amid stalled talks despite a memorandum of understanding signed in June.
