Samsung Display has commenced mass shipments of its new ultra-bright Tandem OLED displays, specifically designed for laptops. These innovative screens support the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 standard, achieving brightness levels of up to 1600 nits. Lenovo was among the
first to receive certification for a laptop utilizing this technology, while Asus, Dell Technologies, and MSI are set to launch similar products. The new display panels feature two layers of organic light-emitting materials instead of one, with both layers emitting
light concurrently. This design allows for increased brightness without excessive electrical current on a single layer, and according to Samsung, it provides over double the lifespan compared to single-layer OLED displays under typical laptop brightness settings. Samsung also introduced new
organic materials engineered to enhance the efficiency and stability of light emission. The company has not yet disclosed power consumption data or detailed specifications for each size of its new screens. Asus, Dell Technologies, and MSI are expected to unveil
True Black 1400 compatible laptops during the second half of 2026 and throughout 2027.
